So Kallum Taylor will wake up tomorrow morning as YUSU President-elect... The former Vanbrugh chair beat Zahra Latif by just under 400 votes, with ex-Goodricke chair Nacho hernando a distant third. depression amongst undergraduate students at the University of York and according to the Mental Health Foundation 1 in 4 of us will suffer from depression in the course of a year. In a special programme, York 60 will be investigating the impact of mental health problems on students. York falls 2 places in latest Uni rankings

The University of York has slipped down 2 places to 10 in national rating, but is still "the leading university in Yorkshire and the Humber". That's according to the Complete University Guide published today. The Uni is also listed in the top 10 for 12 of the 26 subjects it offers.

Concerns grow for missing York teenager

A 14 year old boy missing from his home on Hull Road in York for 9 days has sparked a police call for help. Adrian Thomas Fayter was reported missing on Saturday. Police are becoming increasingly concerned for his safety and urge anyone with information to contact them on 0800 60 60 247.

The University of York have lost out in the final of the BBC’s University Challenge, losing out to Magdalen College Oxford 290 to 85

It would have been the first time the University of York had ever won University Challenge.

The York team was made up of second year students Caudwell, Clemo and Donnely as well as third year biology student Keane.

Strong winds cause problems across the region

Strong winds have been causing problems for most of the day

North Yorkshire has been hit by winds of over 70mph, causing problems on region's roads and railways.

Earlier on Thursday a lorry overturned on the A1 Northbound and there were delays caused to train services after problems with overhead lines.

Branches and tiles have been blown down and the Met Office predicts the 'strong blustery winds' to continue for the next few days.

General manager Ed Gallagher said it could
once again be the “shining light”
in York’s late night industry.

Nightlife in York is set to change with the news student favourite Ziggy's is to undergo a £100,000 refit - creating 20 news jobs, and possibly expanding the club to extra floors and past the current 500 capacity venue.

The name is also being changed - to 'Mansion'.

And BPM is also getting a new name - 'Bar Salvation'. The barmaid Tina McIntyre, from Coronation Street, played by Michelle Keegan will be guest of honor at the renaming next Friday. It's part of the club's 21st birthday celebrations.

City Centre to see mounted Police officers

Operation Lion has been launched in a

bit to beat anti social behavior in the city

Fancy going out on a Friday or Saturday night in York? Be prepared to see mounted police patrolling the city centre, in an effort to curb anti-social behaviour. It's part of a campaign nicknamed Operation Lion, to target persistent offenders.

Chief Inspector Dave Hannan states that "We are not prepared to tolerate any criminality in the City of York, particularly from those individuals who are breaking the law on a regular basis.

"This weekend we are reinforcing our message by bringing in mounted support from West Yorkshire, deploying high-visibility patrols in the city centre."

It’s 2 years since the University of York chef Claudia Lawrence disappeared. On Friday her father, Peter Lawrence, returned to the Roger Kirk Centre where Claudia used to work.

In an interview with ((URY)) News Peter Lawrence says that the government think “it’s not necessary” to provide more support to families of missing people. A decision which he calls "disgraceful".

Claudia was last seen walking home from work on March 18th 2009. Police are treating the case as one of suspected murder.

Private Details Made Public

The details of over 17,000 students were made public.

The University of York has accidentally made public all private details of the entire student body on its website

including mobile phone details, home and term time addresses and A Level results.

In light of this, the University Registrar Dr David Duncan says the university will now "undertake a thorough review of data security arrangements."
